October Energy Report: Desire Is Information

October 7, 2026. Words by Olivia Rall.

October arrives with darker skies, longer nights, and an air of mystery. Maybe it's the change in season. Maybe it's knowing the holidays are just around the corner. Or maybe October is simply our last chance to do what we want to do before the calendar starts filling up with everyone else's plans.

There are months for planning, and there are months for admitting what you actually want.

More sleep. More nights out with friends. Three days alone. A new city. A ridiculous outfit. A different life. The exact life you already have (just with a little more breathing room).

Whatever it is, you don't need a permission slip — this is your moment.

The energy: desire without permission

Women are asked to want things in very specific ways. We can want more, but not too much. We can be ambitious, but not intimidating. We can be sexy, but not too sexy. We can be mothers, partners, daughters, friends, bosses, caretakers, hosts, therapists, organizers — and somehow still be expected to know exactly what we want.

October is asking a simpler question: What do you want?

Not what's most practical, not what fits around your toddler's sleep schedule, and most definitely not what would make everyone else happy.

What do you want right now? That desire is information, pay attention to it.

THE COSMIC MOMENT: something is calling

On October 4, Saturn reaches opposition, meaning it sits directly opposite the Sun in our sky and is visible for much of the night. A few days later, the Draconid meteor shower reaches its peak on October 8–9, followed by a New Moon on October 10.

That's a lot of cosmic activity for a month whose unofficial theme is maybe I should finally listen to myself. The New Moon gives us darkness. The meteors give us something to look for. And Saturn, fittingly, brings us back to reality. So instead of asking the universe for a sign, we're asking ourselves...

What have I been wanting that I haven't admitted yet?

What keeps coming back?

What would I do if nobody had an opinion?

What am I pretending not to know?

And perhaps the most important thing, what if I trusted myself?

THE SIGN: make a wish

The Draconids peak October 8–9, and this year the timing is particularly nice because the New Moon arrives just two days later, meaning there's very little moonlight competing with the night sky. The Draconids are usually a modest meteor shower, but they're unusual in that they're best viewed in the evening rather than the middle of the night.

So here's your assignment… Go outside, look for a shooting star, don't waste the moment asking what you should wish for. Wish for what you actually want.

YOUR October PERMISSION SLIP

This month you’re allowed to…

Be inconvenient
You don't have to make yourself easier to love, work with, understand, or accommodate. For many of us, October is the last month to properly set aside everyone else's expectations before the expectations of being a guest, a host, and everyone's favorite holiday organizer kick in.

Want something just because you want it

Change your mind

Disappear for three days
Or three hours. Or an afternoon. You are allowed to have a life that doesn't require constant access to you.

Wear something ridiculous
Especially if it makes you feel like yourself.

Keep exactly what you have
Not every season needs to be a reinvention.

THE RITUAL: admit what you want

Forget the vision board, we're going analog. Find somewhere you feel most comfortable. Bring your favorite pen and a piece of paper.

And write:

I want more of...

I want less of...

I keep thinking about...

If nobody else had an opinion, I would...

Now, the most important part is don’t edit yourself while you write. You don't need to sound reasonable or turn your answers into new goals or a five-year plan. Let yourself want what you want, you can figure out what to do with everything else later.

a wink to your wild

The October Full Moon arrives on October 26 and is traditionally known as the Hunter's Moon. Which feels appropriate, because this month isn't about finding yourself. It's about noticing what you've been hunting for all along.

See you next month!
